NDLW: Making Learning Visible & Why Evidence Over Time Matters More Than Ever

A National Distance Learning Week Webinar from USDLA

Date & Time

November 6, 2026, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Description

Artificial intelligence has accelerated an important conversation in education: What counts as evidence of learning? As AI becomes an increasingly common part of the learning process, educators are recognizing that final products alone no longer provide a complete picture of student understanding, growth, or mastery.

This session explores a shift from evaluating isolated outcomes to designing for evidence over time. Educators are invited to reconsider asking "Did the student create this?" and try a more enduring question: "What evidence helps us understand how learning developed?"

Using the newly designed TEA Framework (Transform Evidence Arc), Dr. Lisa Clark will explore practical strategies for designing assessments that strengthen instructor judgment, encourage meaningful student engagement, and support evidence-rich teaching and learning in both online and blended environments.

Session Outcomes

  • Explain why evidence gathered over time provides a more complete picture of student learning in the age of AI.
  • Apply the TEA Framework to redesign learning activities and assessments that emphasize authentic evidence of growth.
  • Identify practical strategies for making learning more visible while preserving academic integrity, instructor judgment, and meaningful student engagement.

Examine how learning can be made more visible through intentional checkpoints, reflection, application, and authentic demonstrations of understanding that capture the progression of learning rather than a single moment of performance.
